Saraphi Police have arrested a 27-year-old man on gambling charges after he was discovered betting on the football World Cup at a bar in Tambon Yang Noeng.
The unnamed man, described by police only as living locally, has been charged with illegal gambling – specifically predicting the results of a World Cup match and also for possessing “gambling assets without permission.”
The arrest was made as part of a crackdown on gambling and other offenses, including drug taking and dealing, being undertaken by police throughout Chiang Mai and the north during the World Cup.
Saraphi police’s most recent gambling arrest was June 11 when they caught six people betting on a boxing bout.
