The man, named by Thai media as Nim Thinyaem, told police that he had been drinking during the day and while walking home he spotted his victim, Mrs. Sumjai Sutham, wearing a gold chain at a house in Moo 4 Nam Bor Luang.
Having spotted his victim, he attacked her, pinning her to the ground where rapped her before slashing her throat and fleeing the scene with the gold necklace and 10,000 baht in cash.
Along with the theft motivation, Thinyaem told police that he was motivated to rape the grandmother as his wife was pregnant and couldn’t give him sex.

Thinyaem has been remanded in custody pending a court appearance. Mrs. Sutham was admitted to hospital in a critical conditional.
