A 36-year-old man was arrested yesterday, March 11 after he allegedly stole a bag from a Chilean tourist in Phra Singh earlier the same day.
The snatch and grab took place on Ratchamanka Road in front of the Anodard Hotel at around 3:30 p.m.
Police used CCTV footage to trace the alleged assailant Mr. Boonwat Insaat to a residence in Thanon Rat Chiang Saen Road Soi 1 in Haiya, arresting him at around 9 p.m.
Found at the residence were a Honda Dream used in the robbery, a red backpack, the victim’s purse that included two credit cards, two debit cards and 3,000 baht in cash and a Huawei P20 smartphone.
Staggeringly before being caught the accused had managed to buy camera gear worth 90,000 baht using the victim’s credit cards some of which he had then sold for 60,000 baht.
Mr. Insaat later confessed, saying he had stolen the bag from the tourist to raise money to play Baccarat online. He’s been detained in custody pending a court hearing.
