A 49-year-old man was arrested yesterday, March 31 for starting multiple fires in Mae Chaem.
The accused, Mr. Dok Khamboonth from Chom Thong was found in the Ban Thuan Forest by National Parks Officials following a tip-off from local villages.
Mr. Khamboonth is alleged to have been starting fires along a path from Ban Khun Pon to Huai Wok using a cigarette lighter.
His motivation for starting the fires is was not detailed but he has supposedly confessed.
He was taken to Mae Chaem Police Station. It’s not clear if he was detained in custody with reports saying only that police were pursuing legal proceedings against him.
The arrest in Mae Chaem follows on from the arrest of two people for starting a fire in Hang Dong yesterday and comes after Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha called on fire starters to be arrested March 30.
