Man arrested for stealing bag from Burmese woman in Kad Luang

A 50-year-old man has been arrested after he stole a bag belonging to a Burmese woman in Kad Luang Jan. 20.

The woman, Mrs. Nan Kheint, 24, described by Thai language press as a Myanmar tourist but who lives in San Sai, was shopping in Kad Luang when she left her bag in a store while going to the bathroom.

The thief, Mr. Sophon Phothipitak, 50 from Chang Phuaek then walked into the store, grabbed the bag then departed.

Inside the bag was the woman’s passport, a Samsung J2 smartphone and about 700 baht in cash.

After receiving the theft complaint, police tracked Mr. Phothipitak via CCTV from Kad Luang to a rod daeng and then onto in address on Soi 5 Hasidawee Road where he was arrested yesterday, Jan. 22.

Mr. Phothipitak, who was found in possession of the woman’s passport and phone, subsequently confessed to the theft, telling police that he had stolen the bag as he needed money.

According to reports, this is the third time Mr. Phothipitak had been arrested for theft in similar circumstances.
