Man arrested for stealing two pillows from Phra Singh hotel

A man has been arrested after he was caught on CCTV stealing two pillows from an unnamed hotel in Phra Singh Aug. 21.

The accused, Mr. Thanapat Kitikul, 58 was seen on camera picking up what was described as a “blue-leaning pillow” and a “cream-colored cushion” at the hotel before leaving the scene.

Police, using CCTV, tracked him from the hotel to a van he used to depart the area. The van was registered in his name.

Mr. Kitikul told police that he didn’t think that he would have been seen on CCTV and that given the items stolen were of only of minor value he thought the hotel would not report the theft.

He’s been charged with burglary at night – surprisingly the night part is a specific offense under Section 335 of the Criminal Code of Thailand with higher penalties versus burglary during the day. The offense has a prison sentence of one to five years and a fine of between 2,000 and 10,000 baht.

Mr. Kitikul has been detained in custody pending a court hearing.
