A 47-year-old man was arrested in Chang Phueak early this morning, March 24 for selling face masks at a marked up price in breach of the law.
The raid and arrest took place in Moo 2 Chang Phueak with officers from the Crime Suppression Center on Information Technology of the Provincial Police Region 5 and Chiang Mai commercial officials taking part following an ongoing investigation.
Mr. Thawichawong Prasert was found to have 40,000 face masks in his possession valued at 285,000 baht.
The arrest came after police arrested two other people, Mr Praphon Pongkititan, 20 in Chom Thong and Miss Laawan Thamsarat, 37 in Tha Sala for selling face mask online above the prescribed price. Both had been sourcing their masks from Mr. Prasert who runs a medical supply store on Chotana Road (Highway 107) in Chang Phueak at 14.25 baht per mask.
He was charged with “selling products higher than the price set by the Central Committee on prices of goods and services and selling masks, which are controlled goods at an unreasonably high price, according to the Act on Price of Goods and Services B.E. 2542.”
It’s not clear if he was detained in custody but police are pursuing legal action.
