Man conveniently crashes vehicle next to Hang Dong police box

Police were quick to the scene of an accident Thursday evening June 28 after the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed it next to a police checkpoint box in Hang Dong.

The driver, named as Amornchai Chan, 27, said he was driving his Toyota Hilux to a market in Chiang Mai to buy tomatoes when he lost control of the vehicle at 10:20 p.m. Mr. Chan said that he had been surprised by a downpour of heavy rain and that the vehicle slid by itself, rolling until it ended up on its roof next to the police box.

Fortunately, both Mr. Chan and his girlfriend who was also in the vehicle only suffered minor injuries as both were wearing seatbelts.

Police are said to be investigating the accident and while not disputing that Mr. Chan had lost control of the vehicle also believe that he was driving at high speed at the time of the accident.
