Man dead after slamming into car at traffic lights in Wat Ket

A man has died after he slammed his motorcycle at high speed into the back of a car stopped at red traffic lights in Wat Ket last night, Nov. 27.

The accident occurred at the San Dek Intersection – Superhighway/ Doi Saket Road (Highway 118) at the northeast corner near Central Festival at around 11:40 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, Ms. Chananphat Lert Chanthakan, 27 said that she stopped at the traffic lights and was waiting for them to change when the motorcycle ran into the back of her vehicle.

The deceased man was named as Mr. Pathom Wongsudhi, 43 from Sop Tui, Mueang Lampang.

Why he drove at high speed into the back of a vehicle stopped at traffic lights in unknown but police are said to be investigating. The intersection, the second busiest in Chiang Mai with 91,360 vehicles crossing it daily is also covered in CCTV so it’s likely video will be forthcoming.

The body was taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for an autopsy.
