A man transporting a gas bottle in his vehicle has been injured after a gas leak caused an explosion this morning on the Middle Ring Road (3029) in Mae Hia.
In a bizarre tail, Mr. Suebsak Phorang, 41, a trader selling snacks at a flea market had picked up the gas bottle at an unnamed store and was returning in his Honda CRV when gas leaking from the gas tank exploded in the vehicle blowing out several windows at around 9:15 a.m.
Mr. Phorang managed to nurse the vehicle to the side of the road and emergency services were called. He was described was suffering burns and was later taken to hospital.
Despite all signs indicating a gas leak, the vehicle itself was taken to a nearby police station for forensic investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion. To be fair, explosions due to gas tank leaks in cars are rare in the north.
Despite the explosion, the gas tank itself was fortunately not harmed. Had the entire tank exploded the damage would have been far, far worse.
