Man jailed for one month for starting garbage fire in San Phi Suea

A man has been sentenced to one month in prison and fined 3,000 baht for starting a garbage fire in breach of the province-wide fire ban Jan. 12.

The fire itself was on a field behind a 7-Eleven in Baan Thanawan in Moo 8 San Phi Suea with the suspect being arrested at the time.

Mr. Belemja, 39 from Pang Luang, Wiang Haeng District was accused of “violating an order of the provincial director and announcement of Chiang Mai Province on the determination of all types of open burning in controlled areas.”

He was subsequently found guilty of breaching the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550, Section 15,21,22,29,49 as was punished according to Section 59.

In addition to the one month jail, Mr. Belemja will also have a one year parole period.
