A 43-year-old man lost his foot after he stepped on a landmine while in a forest in Phrae yesterday, Feb. 10.
The incident occurred in Ban Huay Kut in Tambon Den Chai, Den Chai District.
The victim, Mr. Tawatchai Chuchart was with his son in the forest cutting bamboo stems to make chopsticks when he stepped on the landmine, losing his foot in the process.
He was rushed to Den Chai Hospital.
Why there was a landmine in the area is not clear with The Bangkok Post reporting that there have been two similar landmine explosions in the area in the past.
A bomb disposal team was sent to the site to ascertain what sort of landmine was involved and to work out what the landmine was doing there.
