Man uninjured after driving pickup truck into Chiang Mai moat

In the first car in moat case of 2019, a man was uninjured after driving his pickup truck into the Chiang Mai this morning, Jan. 8.

The incident occurred opposite Icon in the northwest corner of the moat in Si Phum at around 7 a.m.

The driver, identified only as Mr. Boonchai, said that he had tapped his brakes to slow down in heavy rain when the truck lost control all by itself and magically ended up in the moat.

He was able to successfully free himself from the truck before it sank, swimming back to the edge of the moat. He’s described by Thai language press as being wet only.

The pickup truck was subsequently removed from the moat from around 10:30 a.m to 11 a.m. (video below).
