A 37-year-old man has been arrested after he was found with a lighter and red ant eggs in a forest area in Lamphun yesterday, April 2.
The arrest occurred when rangers came across the man within Doi Wiang forest area, Mae Ta Krai National Park, Moo 9, Ban Thi at around 1 p.m.
The accused, Mr. Ban Ae Lae, who Thai media pointed out was ethnically Karen, was charged with collecting forest products without permission and entering a national park without permission.
Notably, the forest areas in the north remain closed due to the ongoing fire and smog crisis. The only people allowed legally into proscribed national parks at the moment are those involved in fire fighting activities.
