New BOI Visa and Work Permit Service Center opens in Chiang Mai

A new one-stop shop for work permits and visas for Board of Investment employees and employers was opened this morning, Jan. 14, at the Chiang Mai Immigration Office in Suthep.

The Visa and Work Permit Visa Center, only the third in the country after Phuket and Bangkok has been established in conjunction with Board of Investment, Immigration and the Department of Employment Ministry of Labor to help promote “Thailand 4.0.”

The office is said to simplify the process of applying for work permits and issuing work permits through “a single window for Visa and Work Permit system for aliens working in establishments receiving investment promotion.”

Exactly what services the one stop shop provide, besides work permits for BOI employees is not clear. The Chiang Mai Immigration Office already had a separate office to assist BOI employees with visa extensions and other matters.

Whether visa extensions and other services such as 90-day reports are now available for BOI visa holders from the new one-stop shop is unknown but if it does, it will be welcomed by those on Non-Imm B (BOI) visas.

The office does mean that Non-Imm B (BOI) visa holders no longer have to go to the Government Complex in Chang Phueak to obtain a work permit.
