New Chiang Mai Governor sworn in at convention center

Mr. Charoenrit Sanguansat was sworn in as the new governor of Chiang Mai this morning, Oct. 1, replacing now former governor Mr. Supachai Iamsuwan who served in the position for 14 months.

A Chiang Mai native, Mr. Sanguansat holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) from Chiang Mai University and rose through the ranks of the Thai civil service, mostly in Chiang Mai.

Sanguansat was deputy governor of Chiang Mai between 2012 to 2015 before taking on the position of the governor of Tak.

At a ceremony at the Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Center in Chang Phuak for his swearing in, Mr. Sanguansat said it was an honor to hold the position and that he was committed to creating happiness and equality for all people.

While not yet commenting on plans for the 2020 burning season, hopes are high among both Thais and expats that the new governor may actually take serious action in combating Chiang Mai’s annual environmental crisis.
