Nine people have been arrested in a raid targeting birdseed sellers at the Thapae Gate in Si Phum this morning, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m.
The raid, led by Chiang Mai Municipality with the assistance of Mueang Chiang Mai Police saw the arrest of five men and four women who were found to be selling the birdseed to Chinese tourists.
Among those arrested was the so-called Chiang Mai pigeon whisperer, the 30-year-old woman who went viral for her pigeon-chasing skills last month, even making headlines in overseas newspapers.
Along with seizing the birdseed, cash from the sale of birdseed and equipment used to chase birds, all nine were charged “selling and operating a business without permission ” and causing an annoyance under the Public Health Act.
It’s not clear how much they were fined but the maximum penalty for the offenses is 20,000 baht in total.
