One dead, 15M yaba tablets seized in new shootout in Chiang Rai

One person has been killed and 15 million yaba tablets seized in the latest shootout involving the Royal Thai Army in the north last night, Dec. 6

The new shootout occurred at a checkpoint set up by both the Army and police officers on a road between Chiang Saen and Mueang Chiang Rai in Wiang Chai District.

A Toyota Hilux approached the checkpoint before its occupants stop the vehicle, jumped out and attempted to flee while firing upon soldiers at the same time.

The deceased was named as Mr. Anat, 30 from Rim Khong, Chiang Saen.

The Hilux was found packed with 30-40 large packets of drugs which contained an estimated 15 million yaba tablets, making it one of biggest drug hauls in the north in recent times.
