One dead as fire destroys workers camp in Saraphi

A 59-year-old man has died after being caught in a fire that destroyed a workers’ camp in Saraphi early this morning, March 22.

The fire broke out in the camp behind the Karnkanok Property Company in Nong Phueng at around 3:30 a.m.

While emergency services were quick the scene they didn’t manage to save Mr. Sap Chuam Mun who was unable to escape the fire in time.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. One of the men in the camp, Mr. Saichon Samransuk, 35 said that he woke to the smell of smoke, quickly discovering that the camp was on fire.

The body of the deceased man was taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai for an autopsy before being released to relatives for funeral rites. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
