A raft guide has died after the tourist raft he was operating overturned in Mae Wang.
According to police, the raft overturned yesterday afternoon (Aug. 19) at around 4 p.m. as it was heading downstream in Ban Sabai Moo 9, Tambon Mae Wang, a strip highly popular with Thai and foreign tourists alike who visit the area to see elephants and to experience rafting rides.
The deceased has been named as Mr. Bancha Chan Wanai, 21, also from Moo 9 Tambon Mae Wang.
Police said Mr. Wanai was not wearing a lifejacket at the time of the accident and that he was known to suffer from epilepsy which may have contributed to the accident. It’s not clear from Thai language reports whether there were tourists on the raft at the time of the accident but there were certainly people immediately on the scene shortly after the accident.
