Police are seeking three foreigners who were caught on camera riding motocross bikes on a restricted hiking path between Doi Suthep and Doi Pui.
A video of the three foreigners, alleged to be farangs despite it being hard to tell in the video, was posted to a Facebook page Phra Maha Chaiwong Dec. 25 (see below) and shows them heading towards Wat Pha Lat in Suthep.
The Abbot of Wat Pha Lat, Phrakhru Thirasutphot, told Thai language media that he had seen this happen before but it was completely inappropriate on a walking trail that is used by monks and tourists on foot alike.
As well as being restricted, the path itself is also considered to be unsuitable for motocross bikes as there are trees blocking it in multiple points. The video shows one of the foreigners falling over while trying to get past one.
Police and park officials have launched an official investigation in an attempt to identify the riders. All three are wanted on a charge of breaching the National Park Act, BE 2504, Section 16.
This being Thailand, the maximum fine is 1,000 baht.
