Police, military and others monitor CM nightspots for coronavirus shutdown compliance

Police officers, members of the Royal Thai Army, officers from the public health department and other government bodies have taken to patrolling Chiang Mai streets to make sure that entertainment outlets are closed in compliance with the coronavirus shutdown.

The order that all entertainment centers – including pubs close in Chiang Mai came into effect yesterday, March 19.

Around 150 were involved in patrols last night of major entertainment zones including Nimman, Loi Kroh and other areas. So far there have been no reports of non-compliance.

It would appear – at least according to reports and pictures of the inspections that some places that serve food and alcohol can trade under the ban, however, they are not able to operate as bars with patrons required to order food to be able to drink. Confusingly, some places that do offer food have shut down anyway while others haven’t.
