Chiang Mai Provincial Police District 5 are promising a fair investigation into the alleged murder of a 19-year-old woman by a senior Chiang Mai police officer yesterday, Nov. 4.
The shooter, Col. Kongsak Kongngern, allegedly Chief of Narcotics Control Police at Muaeng Chiang Mai Police Station (some reports suggest he was a police chief) is said to have shot his girlfriend in a pickup truck following a dispute.
The deputy commander of police is said to be leading the investigation himself.
“We are aware of the importance of justice and being guardians of the peace,” CMPD said in a statement on Facebook. “We will perform our duty in this case with equity by collecting testimony and scientific evidence to identify the actions of the incident as to whether it was an accident or intentional.
Notably, Col. Kongngern has so far only been charged with negligence causing others to receive a serious injury and has been released on bail.
Col. Kongngern is both claiming that the shooting was an accident. The officer claims that his girlfriend, Miss Apasraman Talay, 19 attacked him in the vehicle and that while they were struggling the gun accidentally discharged into her head.
