On 18th June 2020, the Royal Thai Police and FDA raided a warehouse in Bangkok after reports from the public that the property was being used to store used medical gloves that were to be resold as new.
During the raid, the officers found a large variety of products including 10,835,000 rubber gloves and 656,000 examination gloves. They also discovered large empty boxes that would have contained over 500 smaller boxes of examination gloves, a computer and packaging accessories.
A total of over 50 million baht worth of items.
Police Lieutenant Colonel, Permpoon Chidchob said the COVID 19 epidemic has caused an increase in demand for products that prevent the spread of the virus. This has opened up a channel for entrepreneurs who lack virtue to seize the opportunity to manufacture or smuggle non-standard health products into the country.
Over the last few months, police have made hundreds of arrests and confiscated hundreds of thousands of PPE masks, alcohol gel products and thermometers that were ready for distribution.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicious PPE equipment by calling the FDA Hotline: 1556.
