Quarantine order now in place for foreigners and some others who enter Chiang Mai

A quarantine order is now in place for all foreigners, Thais returning from overseas and those from some provinces in the south who enter into Chiang Mai Province.

The Chiang Mai Communicable Disease Committee’s Order No. 6/2020 on urgent measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, effective from today, April 2, will require any foreign national visiting Chiang Mai to be confined for 14 days in accommodation provided by the Department of Disease Control unless they have their own home in the province. In the latter case, they must remain in their home for a 14 day period.

All Thai nationals who return from overseas or have traveled to Chiang Mai from the Bangkok metropolitan area, Ayala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Phuket must also self-quarantine for 14 days.

Anyone found in breach of the order can be fined up to 100,000 baht and may face a period of up to one year in jail.

Of note, the order does not apply to foreigners who are already in the province.
