A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked by a water buffalo in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai yesterday, Sept. 18.
The victim, Mr. Srithon Manota, 68 from Tambon Mae Sai, Mae Sai District, had let the water buffalo, described as a male between the age of two and three, out to eat grass when a short rope shocked the water buffalo.
Video (see below) captured towards the end of the attack shows the water buffalo attacking Mr. Manota on the ground after the initial attack. Villagers managed to come to the rescue, scaring the water buffalo away.
Mr. Manota was taken to Kasemrad Sriburin General Hospital in Chiang Rai in a serious condition with “stab” wounds consistent with the horns of a water buffalo on his head, arms and body.
Relatives managed to recapture the water buffalo and have contacted the previous owner offering to sell it back to him.
