Mr. Chalerm Supinee, 56 and a director at the Chao Pha Luang School in Chiang Mai, died early Wednesday morning after his vehicle slammed into a tree Moo 6, San Kamphaeng.
The accident, on Chiang Mai – San Kamphaeng Road, saw Mr. Suprinee’s Toyota Hilux hit a tree at an angle with the impact hitting the driver’s side door, resulting in severe injuries that led to his death.
San Kamphaeng police are investigating the cause of the crash but believe that as well as the vehicle traveling at high speed, Mr. Supinee may have also been distracted by using his mobile phone at the time he lost control as well.
The section of the road is well known for its trees, many intruding into the road itself, be it not in the direct path of traffic.
The body has been taken to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for a formal autopsy before being returned to his family for a funeral ceremony.
