Second wife kills assistant village headman in Mae Taeng

An assistant village headman has been shot dead following a dispute with his second wife yesterday, Dec. 2.

The victim, assistant village headman Mr. Manit Srimuang, 58 is said to have threatened his second wife, Ms. Siri Pen Kham Kong, 37 with a gun at the home he lives in with his two wives in Moo 5 Tambon Khilek.

A struggle between the two then took place with Ms. Kong receiving an injury to her hand while Mr. Srimuang was shot dead.

Ms. Kong admitted to police that she had shot him but only in self-defense.

She said that she had attended a funeral earlier in the evening but Mr. Srimuang had wanted to spend time with her. He had subsequently accused her of not paying him enough attention and possibly cheating on him.

The first wife, Mrs. Phannee Chaichai, 64, was apparently a witness to the shooting.

Police initially charged Ms. Kong with acting negligently to cause others to die but are now reconsidering the charge given her plea of self-defense.
