Six members of a Lahu hill tribe family have been arrested for dealing drugs in a sting in Mae Taeng.
The arrest of the six was announced this morning by Chiang Mai Provincial District 5 police but the sting operation itself began on Jan. 21 after police had received a tip that members of the family were shipping drugs to Chiang Mai.
Monitoring of the family home in Tak Province started Jan. 25 with family members observed traveling to Mae Hong Son then onto Chiang Mai.
The arrests themselves happened yesterday, Jan. 27 when the family turned up to meet a policeman pretending to be a buyer in a forest area near Mae Malai-Pai Road in Tambon Khilek.
The arrested, all members of the same extended family from both Mae Hong Son and Tak were named as Mr. Anutin Namma, 31 years, Ms. Paiya Namma, 30, Mrs. Nathate Cha-ur, 48 years, Ms. Monnapa Cha-ur, 29, Mr. Sommai Cha-ur, 51 years Mr. Patiparn Sae-wang, 28.
Police found them in possession of 15 kilograms of crystal meth and 170,000 yaba tablets.
