Another day of minor seismic activity in the north with a small earthquake being recorded this morning, Sept. 3 near the Mae Kuang dam in San Sai.
The 1.8 on the Richter scale earthquake struck at 11 a.m at 18°56’02.4 N 99°05’02.4 E – Mueang Len, forested land just to the north of the Haui Kiang Reservoir and three kilometers from the Mae Kuang dam wall.
The earthquake is the second in or near the Chiang Mai metro area in recent times with a 1.8 earthquake being recorded in San Pa Tong Aug. 29.
Three earthquakes were recorded in Chiang Mai province over the period of Aug. 23-25 – a 2.9 and 2.1 in Omkoi and a 1.7 in Phrao.
