Songthaew driver arrested for murder of woman in Chom Thong

A 39-year-old songthaew driver was arrested by police in Nakhon Sawan today in relation to the murder of a woman found in a fridge in Ban Luang, Chom Thong Oct. 27.

The body of Mrs. Wannee Chira, 58 was discovered after locals smelled a rotting smell coming from the commercial building Mrs. Chira has been living in. Mrs. Chira had moved to Chom Thong around 4-5 months ago and had been living by herself while practicing meditation and Dharma at a nearby wat.

An arrest warrant for Mr. Withun Sritabut was issued by police Oct. 29.

Sritabut had bee seen in Rayong and is believed to have traveled to Bangkok until police finally caught up to him in Nakhon Sawan.

Given photos of the arrest, it would appear that Mr. Sritabut did not come easily and may have have attempted to avoid capture. Along with a number of personal items, police also found large amounts of cash – somewhere close to 1 million baht in Sritabut’s bag. Sritabut was previously accused of stealing at least 1.2 million baht from the bank account of his victim.
