Students protest against Future Forward disbandment in Chiang Mai

Students, staff and other supporters gathered at two locations in Chiang Mai yesterday, Feb. 25 to protest against a court decision to disband the opposition Future Forward Party.

Crowds at Chiang Mai University were around 1,000 while a further 200 students attended a rally at Mae Jo University demanding justice and the upholding of democracy. Participants are reported to have discussed politics at the events as well as signing a petition against the court and its decision.

According to Sanook, police and undercover soldiers were reported to be present at both rallies observing those who had turned up to protest. There’s also some suggestion that university administrators had actively tried to stop the protests occurring as well.

Both rallies were peaceful, however, with further rallies planned in the coming weeks.
