Three drug runners killed in two Chiang Rai shootouts

Three drug runners were killed in two separate shootouts in Chiang Rai last night.

The first shootout involved Narcotic Suppression Bureau police and soldiers of the Pha Muang Force coming across a vehicle crossing into Chiang Saen District from Myanmar at 9:30 p.m.

Upon attempting to intercept the vehicle, a shootout broke out with one smuggler, identified only as Mr. Lae, 20 killed. The second man in the vehicle, Mr. Pa (no last name) was arrested at the scene.

Seven kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 250,000 yaba tablets were found in the vehicle.

The second shootout also involved another vehicle that was intercepted in this case Pa Tueng in Mae Chan District at around 10 p.m.

A shootout took place with the vehicle attempting to flee the scene before later crashing. The deceased were named as Mr. Peerapol Tamu, 19 and Mr. Khamchang Japo, 18.

150,000 yaba tablets, an 11mm pistol and a .38 “super short pistol” were found in the vehicle.
