A busy Sunday, Nov. 17 in Chiang Mai seismically with three earthquakes recorded in the province – one in the outer metro area while another two were near the Myanmar border in Mae Ai.
The first earthquake – a 2.2 on the Richter scale was recorded at 7:31 a.m. at 18.883 N 99.247 E – Mae Pong in Doi Saket not far from the hot springs and roughly the same location as a 4.1 recorded Oct. 18 and a 3.3 Oct. 27.
In Mae Ai, the first earthquake, a 3.0 was recorded at 9:59 a.m. at 20.117 N 99.516 E – Tha Ton north of Highway 1089.
The second earthquake in Mae Ai – a 2.9 was recorded at 12:20 p.m. at 20.111 N 99.529 – also Tha Ton but closer to the Chiang Rai border.
Four earthquakes were recorded in the area – all along the Mae Chan fault in Tha Ton and nearby in Chiang Rai between Nov. 1 and Nov. 4.
The Royal Immigration Department inspected dams in both the metro area and north for damage but found none.
