A tour guide died and a farang tourist was hospitalized after they were attacked by wasps in Mae Ai Saturday, Oct. 26.
The tour guide, Mr. Sanchai Phaarun , 58 was escorting two tourists – Mr. Jean-Louis La Moon (transliterated from Thai) and Mrs. Ann Nick Mauphin, 59 from France through a forest in Moo 13 Tha Ton when the wasps attacked.
Mr. La-Moon fled the scene and was able to obtain help from a nearby village but not quickly enough to save the tour guide. Mrs. Mauphin was taken to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital for treatment.
According to Thairath, rescue workers were having difficulties removing Mr. Phaarun’s body due to the wasps still being present in the area.
While wasp attacks are fairly rare in the north it’s not the first time they have attacked. 27 students at a school in Nan required medical treatment after they were attacked by wasps in August 2018.
