Trees down, market stalls damaged as storm hits Chiang Mai city

Trees came down and market stalls were damaged as a storm struck the center of Chiang Mai city yesterday, Oct. 6.

While the storm went through most of the metro area, most of the damage was in or around the moat in Haiya, Phra Singh and Si Phum at around 3:30 p.m.

Market holders setting up for Sunday Walking Street had their stalls blown away and goods damaged. Photos also indicate localized flooding on Rachadamnoen Road where Sunday Walking Street in held. Sunday Walking Street did go ahead minus a number of stall holders.

At the Chiang Mai Gate, trees came down along the moat as near cyclonic winds struck. Trees also came down at the Suan Dok Gate as well.

In addition, a large advertising sign along with its supporting structure near Siam TV in Haiya also came crashing down causing minor damage to surrounding buildings.
