Two drug runners are dead following a shootout with police in Phrao yesterday, Jan. 27.
The incident took places in Ban Pa Or in Tambon Nam Phrae, Phrao at around 3 p.m.
Police Frontier Unit 335 in conjunction with Phrao Police were in the area after receiving a tip off that there were drug smugglers in the area when they came across a group of five men with backpacks and firearms.
After calling on the men to surrender, a five minute long shootout took place with three of the men fleeing the scene.
Along with two dead bodies, police also retrieved 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 2,000 yaba tablets, three shot guns and five rounds of ammunition.
The drugs and weapons were transported to Phrao Police Station.
While these sorts of shootouts are not unusual in the north they are in the area as Phrao doesn’t share a border with Myanmar.
