Two small earthquakes rattle the north

Another week of seismic activity in the north with two small quakes recorded in both Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces.

The latest quake, registering 1.8 on the Richter scale struck yesterday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at 19.72 N 99 E – Mueang Na, Chiang Dao District near the Myanmar border.

The prior earthquake, 1.4, struck Feb. 3 at 8:25 p.m. at 19.78, 99.71 – Pa Ko Dam, Mae Lao District, Chiang Rai.

A larger earthquake – 2.9 was recorded Feb. 4 at 19.97, 98.01 – Loilem, Myanmar, about 18 kilometers from the Thai border in Pang Mapha District, Mae Hong Son.

There were no reports of damage due to any of the earthquakes.

The quakes are the first cluster recorded in the north in February and follow on from a number of earthquakes recorded in San Sai late January.
