Village headman severely burned while fighting fire in San Sai

A village headman is in intensive care after being severely burned while fighting a fire in San Sai yesterday, March 9.

The incident occurred at the scene of a fire in Ban Pha Chedi, Moo 6 Mae Faek Mai at around 3 p.m.

The headman, Mr. Niphon Jaratham from Moo 5 Mae Faek Mai was assisting around 35 others to extinguish a forest fire that was threatening homes when the fire spread more quickly than expected. While the others fighting the fire were able to escape, Mr. Jaratham wasn’t so lucky.

He was initially rushed to San Sai Hospital before later being transferred to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital with burns to 85-90% of his body.

The Governor of Chiang Mai Mr. Charoenrit Sanguansat visiting the hospital at around 76 p.m. giving encouragement to family members as well as making a donation of 50,000 baht to the family.

As of 9 p.m. last night Mr. Jaratham was said to still be in the intensive care unit.
