A group of volunteers set up a stall to distribute food and water to those who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic yesterday, March 23.
The stall was set up near the Khuang Sing Intersection in Chang Phueak with the volunteers showing signs such as “we will overcome the crisis together.”
Mrs. Palayamon Limsakdakul, 44, one of the volunteers told MGR Online that those volunteering were aware of the situation in regards to the spread of the virus and were sympathetic to those affected including some who had been forced to close their businesses.
The distribution point will be open daily from 3 p.m. with around 150 food and water sets available per day as long as the group can continue to afford buying the food using donations.
Just how many people are currently out of work in Chiang Mai is unknown but with the near-total collapse of the tourist industry followed by the shutdown of all non-essential services, the number of unemployed is easily in the tens of thousands.
