Warning to Thai Civilians Displaying Police Badge on Car

Ministry of Defence Thailand

The Ministry of Defense issued a statement today warning that it is illegal to display a government sign on a vehicle without permission from the government agency.

They warned Thais to check their vehicles before driving to celebrate the relaxation of phase 3 of the lockdown as anyone caught violating this law will be fined and prosecuted.

It has come to their attention that government signs such as the shield of the Royal Thai Police are being used on civilian-owned vehicles without permission from the government. Attaching a shield or official logo to make a vehicle look like a police car is illegal.

Under the Government Trademark Act, Section 6 in conjunction with Section 8, the penalty for breaking this law is imprisonment not exceeding 1 year and a fine not exceeding 2,000 baht.
