Water Festival 2021, fun-filled traditional Thai Songkran festival celebrations will take place in temples in the capital and other major cities.
Water Festival 2021 is a collaboration between the Tourism and Sports Ministry, the Culture Ministry, the Royal Thai Navy, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Beverage Plc (ThaiBev).
The festival will take place from 13th-15th April 2021 in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Khon Kaen and Phuket.
The focus will be on having a joyous Songkran celebrated in a safe way to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
In Bangkok, activities will take place at 10 main piers along the Chao Phraya River.

“These pier sites are Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm, Wat Arun Ratchawararam, Wat Kalayanamitr Varamahavihara, Wat Prayoon Wongsawat, Wat Rakhang Khositaram, Tha Maharaj, Yodpiman River Walk, Asiatique the Riverfront, Lhong 1919 and Sook Siam at Iconsiam.
Festival events will be staged at the Lanna Traditional House Museum at Chiang Mai University, in Lamphun at nine historic temples in Muang district, at Wat Chai Sri’s Ban Sawadee in Khon Kaen province and in Phuket at Hat Mai Khao beach, Sirinat National Park.
This year’s events will feature community-style tourism activities jointly arranged by communities, temples, schools, state and private agencies.
In addition, online seminars on Songkran culture and traditions in ASEAN will be organised through the “C Asean” cultural network.
