The body of a woman has been found murdered in a pond in Hua Ngum, Phan, Chiang Rai.
Police say they discovered the body of Mayura Jiem Hom, aged 54 after she was reported missing. The body was found after police followed a blood trail from a nearby house, where she had apparently been murdered, to the pond itself.
The deceased had deep and long wounds of up to 6 cm deep in her neck, head and back. An axe, believed to be the murder weapon, was found nearby.
Anon Jai Hom, aged 57 and identified as the woman’s husband, was arrested for the crime and is said to have initially confessed to the murder upon questioning. The man said that the arguments between the pair were due to “private jealousy,” although it’s not clear exactly what that meant.
Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and intend to pursue the matter further in court.
