Fisherman drowns in the Ping River in Chom Thong

A 55-year-old fisherman was found drowned in the Ping River in Chom Thong yesterday, Oct. 6.

The man’s body was found in the river near Tha Sai Bunthawee Road in Moo 7 Ban Pae by emergency services workers at around 2 p.m.

Mr. Law Mekbanjai from Moo 19 Ban Pae was last seen by family members when he left on his motorcycle to go fishing in the river early that morning. After he didn’t return home they went looking for him, finding his motorcycle near the river.

While there were no witnesses to the drowning, it’s suspected that Mr. Mekbanjai may have entered the river to free a fishhook from a stump or other underwater object and has drowned while doing so.
