Five people injured after prison van crashes in Mae Hong Son

A prison van transporting prisoners from Mae Hong Son to a prison in Chiang Mai has crashed in Pang Mapha District, Mae Hong Son, injuring five people.

The crash, between kilometer markers 161 and 162 on Highway 1095, the highway between Mae Hong Son to Mae Taeng via Pai, occurred just after 6 p.m. yesterday and is being blamed on the driver losing control of the vehicle in slippery conditions as there was heavy rain in the area at the time.

Major General Preecha Vimolchaijit, the head of Mae Hong Son Provincial Police told local media that tourists needed to be careful when driving on the highway and to strictly respect the traffic rules, despite the fact that it was a Thai national driving the van that crashed.

Neither the prisoners, nor the guards in the van were reported to be seriously injured.
