Heavy rain cuts Highway 101 to Laos border in Nan

Heavy rain last night, Sept. 1 and early this morning Sept. 2 has resulted in damage to an area of roadworks on Highway 101 in Nan cutting the main route to the Laos border.

Highway 101 was closed near the Km. 459 + 141 markers in Ban Wiang Song in Tambon Thung Chang, Thung Chang District.

Excess water from rain over the weekend rushed down a local stream, washing away a traffic diversion road that had been constructed around a new bridge that is being built on the highway proper.

Traffic in both directions was cut off as of 10 a.m. with authorities attempting to make urgent repairs. The difficulty in the repairs was that there was still a large amount of water flowing through where the repairs were required to take place.

Reports suggest that baring larges amounts of new rain that repairs should be in place by this afternoon, Sept. 2.
