Mae Jo Police have issued a warning after a number of people were contacted by people claiming to be police to intimidate them.
The scam involves someone calling a targeted victim, usually mothers, that their child had run into a car complete with background noises. The scammers then say that the child only suffered minor injuries but claim that the people in the vehicle were injured and that compensation must be paid.
In all cases the calls, were coming from 084-0254827.
Mae Jo Police said that they have already had four people call them to confirm the details of the crash and whether it was one of their officers that had contacted them.
The police said that an investigation was ongoing into the matter and that they were hopeful of making an arrest.
