Mahout killed by elephant in Mae Taeng

A mahout has been killed by an elephant in Mae Taeng this morning, Dec. 28.

The incident occurred at the Elephant Nature Park at Tambon Kuet Chang at 8:10 a.m.

According to reports, the mahout, Mr. Kopa Charoenchai Olarn, 58, a Karen man originally from Mae Hong Son was washing the elephant (pictured above) when it decided to stomp on him with great force.

Body parts had to be tracked across the park.

Elephant Nature Park is one of the better-known elephant sanctuaries in the north with a no-ride policy as well as taking in old and disabled elephants for care.
