Man arrested, ‘slot machine’ seized in Mae Rim raid

A man has been arrested and an alleged “slot machine” seized by police on a raid on a shop in Mae Rim yesterday, Jan 21.

The shop and the arrested man were apparently offering their illicit gambling services in Tambon Pong Yaeng.

While called a slot machine by Thai language media, pictures of the machine show it cunningly disguised a karaoke game machine. Allegedly the machine took five baht bets but how it paid out wasn’t disclosed.

The man has been charged with “providing gambling (slot machine cabinet) without permission,” importing prohibited goods into the Kingdom and failing to pay tax on the machine.

Gambling is highly illegal in Thailand and police take the pursuit of the law to great lengths, such as arresting little old women playing with dice doing harm to no one.
