Murder investigation launched after human remains found in Mae Rim septic tank

The remains of a body have been discovered in a Mae Rim septic tank in what police are treating as a case of murder.

The body was found in the tank on Saturday, Sept. 15 in a new housing estate in Mueang Kaeo, Mueang Mae Rim at around 10 p.m. by relatives who had been searching for a missing relative.

While the body was severely decomposed, clothes on the man led police to believe it is the body of Mr. Tony Lung Saen, 45 a Tai Yai man that had not been seen by his family since Aug. 24 but had only been reported missing to Mae Rim police Sept. 13.

A son of the man, named only as Mr. Somchai, 20, claimed that they had only reported him missing Sept. 13 as their father had often traveled for work and it wasn’t unusual for him to be gone for weeks at a time.

Some of the man’s other belongings were found near the scene and a car owned by the deceased is believed to have been sold by a man wanted for questioning by police.

While the body was awaiting an autopsy, police said that injuries to the skull of the deceased appear to show that he was struck repeatedly with a blunt object.

The investigation remains ongoing.
